Spring of Critical Thinking 2025

International Symposium - 1st & 2nd February
Cultural offer for children evolves rapidly, as does our society. Let's put our heads together to find new ways of supporting the development of children aged 2 to 10, so that they can flourish and meet the challenges that lie ahead. The conference will be chaired by Brune Bottero, journalist, youth science communicator and podcast author.
The BA Planetarium Science Center is organizing the Library’s Science and Engineering Fair (BASEF) for the eighteenth consecutive year, to foster innovative and talented young people at the pre-university level. It runs from Sunday to Tuesday, 12 – 14 March 2023.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with TechnoFuture Egypt, is organizing the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore for the eighteenth consecutive year in Egypt, for children aged 6 – 10, from 29 – 31 January 2023.
More than 2,400 children will compete in this year’s tournament, representing 400 teams from 18 Egyptian governorates, with the participation of around 65 judges for the evaluation of projects, and more than 160 volunteers for the organization of the event.
Science festivity 2021
A whole science village is constructed on the BA plaza where many schools, universities, NGOs and individuals; as well as companies will join to present different types of activities to educate and entertain you. A variety of activities is presented, including hands-on workshops, interactive exhibits, sessions, in addition to various extraordinary shows.
LAND OF INVENTORS – RESEARCH IN GERMANY focuses on world-changing German inventions across the scientific disciplines. The spotlight is on both historical discoveries and pioneering innovations – not forgetting to take a look at the research environment in Germany of course.
The exhibition hosted by the Planetarium Science Center, Bibliotheca Alexandrina in March 2021, in conjunction with the Goethe-Institute in Alexandria.
On October 1 and 2, 2022, Weekend of Science will take place. NEMO Science Museum and The Studio at NEMO are free to visit on these days.
NAMES 2018 Conference
The North Africa and Middle East Science Center’s Network (NAMES) was launched on 30 January 2006 at the Library of Alexandria. The goal of NAMES is the popularization of science throughout the region by enhancing public understanding and involvement in science and scientific culture among an increasingly diverse audience.

How to bring children closer to the environment? How can digital installations be combined with creative activities, encouraging the learning of scientific knowledge?
We are looking for a public engagement professional to work for our new project ‘Open Science Club’ aiming at engaging children and adults in astronomy over a longer period of time: science - a hobby just like music or sports. The club will be built around citizen science and open data. A variety of activities involving the local and international learning landscapes around astronomy will allow for individual learning paths. A good knowledge of German is a must.
Street lamps, illuminated signs and buildings – lights at night improve safety and make cities more attractive, but have also been shown to have negative effects for humans and animals. The problems of artificial light are commonly referred to as light pollution. In the citizen science project the Star-Spotting Experiment, people from all across Sweden help scientists measure light pollution by counting stars in the sky.
Hosted on 14-16 November by the Natural Sciences Museum of Barcelona and Barcelona Ciència in Barcelona, Spain. Senior Managers of Ecsite Full member organisations will be coming together for 2.5 days of networking, high-profile talks and workshops and peer learning.
At the Wellcome Collection, London. A crowdsourced exhibition that tells stories of our relationship to the natural world.
Five years after hosting an Exhibit Prototyping Conference, we were delighted to once again provide the venue for another exhibit development event. This time the interactive exhibits were based around a common theme - Maths. We were joined by representatives from ten science centres in Norway and had two busy days, building, testing, tinkering and developing ideas into great exhibits. Alongside the prototyping there were presentations and discussions on elements that make up a good interactive exhibit, and how to achieve best practices in exhibit design, development and evaluation.
Experimentarium has re-opened its doors after a major refurbishment, revealing an impressive 11,500 square metres of exhibition space which includes “the World’s first interactive cinema", “an enormous roof terrace for open-air activities” and 16 interactive exhibitions. We had the privilege of working with the Danish science centre on the design, build and installation of their indoor water exhibition.
