Sustainability challenges: sharing best practice

‘Life is Everywhere’ is a fitting theme when discussing sustainability, which focuses on conserving nature while ensuring humans can live well on Earth, now and in the future. During this interactive session, participants will break into small thematic teams to discuss critical issues to implementing sustainability in science centres and museums. The different themes will be: operations; education/outreach; organisational change/leadership.
Participants will self-select into groups where they will receive a case study. Attendees will offer solutions while sharing best practices they’ve experienced. Attendees will then report their discussions to the larger group with the hope of connecting like-minded organisations to provide further networking opportunities and continued best-practice-sharing.
Each participant will also receive a list of resources and examples of activities they can use to engage their visitors in sustainability concepts.

Sustainability Engagement Manager
At-Bristol Science Centre
Chris Dunford is the Sustainability Engagement Manager for the At-Bristol Science Centre. For the past five years, Chris has helped At-Bristol find ways to inform and motivate the public around environmental issues using a range of techniques using his organization’s best-practices as a case study of a sustainable organisation. At the local level, Chris works closely with the city of Bristol and other community organisations to make Bristol a green capital and leading sustainability city.
Anna Gunnarsson is a teacher, developer and project manager at Navet science center in Borås Sweden. Currently, she focuses on international collaborations for a sustainable future, entrepreneurial teaching of in-sevice programs for teachers, and Chemistry and Physics for young children thru experiments and storytelling
Paolo Degiovanni is a biologist with deep interests in environmental topics. Currently, he works at Muse – Science Museum in Trento for 4 years as a scientific explainer, designing and implementing educational activities about sustainability. Previously, he worked as a substitute teacher and curator of exhibitions and activities for the Genoa Science Festival.
