Last 12th of November the International Design Contest for the reconstruction of the Science Centre of Città della Scienza in Naples, has been published on the Official Journal. Purpose of the contest is the development of a preliminary architectural design for the new building that will take place in two stages: a first one by the 20th January 2015, in which competitors will highlight the project idea through schematic sketches; a second one for the 15 projects selected, where competitors will be required to do an executive preliminary draft. The contest closure is fixed for May 2015. This two-stage open procedure has been implemented thanks to the partnership with the Italian Foundation of Architects and Engineers INARCASSA in order to guarantee transparency and the best quality results for the reconstruction of the Science Centre. It has been drafted to stimulate the participation of young architects and is addressed to all the architects and engineers who are resident in a Member State of the European Union and in a country member of WTO. The contest was presented in a press conference last 25th November at the European Parliament in Brussels. The Science Centre of Città della Scienza will be rebuilt in its previous location, it will be characterized by positive environmental-energy impacts looking at the strategy of Città della Scienza to become a “smart and virtuous” city. This new step would like to respond to the strong support received by citizens, the international community and the civil society just after the criminal arson in March 2013: LET’S REBUILD NOW!
