Just go for it

Change is constant. We need to be agile and to continually push the boundaries of our work in order to remain engaging and relevant in ever-evolving cultural landscapes.

What organisational or team boundaries would you like to push, but face challenges when doing so? How can we overcome the discomfort, resistance and perceived risk and support each other to just go for it?

Speakers give 5-minutes presentations about boundaries they’ve crossed and survived - sharing learning from pushing control, space, content, organisational or political boundaries. Participants then gather at facilitated tables to map their boundaries and barriers and discuss how these can be overcome. If anyone would like a boundary pushing buddy for support beyond the session, (non compulsory!) check-in calls or social media discussions can be arranged throughout the year, to help each other push boundaries together.

Didier works as an Associate to the University of Bristol, and as consultant and trainer for science centres and museums. Whether it means using the science centre’s toilets for unexpected experiences, discussing sexually explicit content and co-creating the future of pornography in a science centre, or involving 60 employees (at all levels) to design together the visitor experience of their institution – Didier has made boundary-pushing his permanent, exciting and exhausting professional challenge.

Women’s general position remains pervasively segregated from men’s. Even with the introduction of sex equality legislation women have not moved in any great numbers into many areas of employment, which have traditionally been associated with men. While most of us genuinely defend gender balance in theory, especially now that its numerous business benefits are understood, many are finding it hard to implement in practice. Glass ceilings remain. Moreover, they are supported with the columns of steel and concrete. We can push them really hard.
