Awaken and empower the green fairy in you
The planet needs vocal green superheroes - but it also needs discreet green fairies, working in the shadows and corners of our workplaces without necessarily waiting for top-down change or elaborate organisation-wide sustainability plans. Is there one of them lying inside you, ready to be woken up and empowered? Let’s use the inspiring setting of Copenhagen and Experimentarium to look for sustainability tips and tricks we could bring back to our own workplaces.
After hearing about Experimentarium’s own practices, we’ll split into smaller green fairy groups and each visit one place in the science centre, reassessing our goals, questioning our habits, hunting for best practice and thinking of further green hacks. Together we’ll be covering: an exhibition, an office, a tinkering workshop, and an event. We’ll all convene again to share the outcomes of our respective explorations, which will also feed into a green fairy’s manual put together for the wider community.
Session legacy
Together with a pool of tips and resources put together by the facilitators beforehand, the ideas generated in the session will form a green fairy’s manual, ready to be shared with the wider Ecsite community. We are exploring the idea of using a e-zine format.

Ryan will be leading the tinkering activities exploration group, together with Sebastian.
Ryan develops pop-up tinkering environments, leads camps and classes on creative computation and builds playful exhibits for museums and makerspaces. In this session Ryan will contribute ideas around developing tinkering spaces and activities that reduce waste, make use of recycled materials and offer activities that encourage learners to think about innovative solutions to real problems.

Sebastian will be leading the tinkering activities exploration group, together with Ryan.
Sebastian is an educator at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. As he designs and facilitates hands-on activities in the Tinkering Studio space, he makes sharing, re-using and recycling an explicit part of the experience and focusses on process over product.
Hanne will act as our local insider and present Experimentarium's own sustainability practices.
She will then lead the office exploration group together with Julie.
Julie will be facilitating the office exploration group, together with Hanne.
Julie is part of a small informal green task force at the Ecsite office and can share learnings from this ongoing humble step-by-step process.
Strategic Project Manager
Raquel will be leading the events exploration group, together with Carmen.
As part of the Ecsite head office team, Raquel has been collaborating with local hosts for the past four years to organise the Ecsite conference. She will be able to share questions, challenges, local variations and learnings from efforts undertaken to make the conference more sustainable.
Carmen will be leading the events exploration group, together with Raquel.
Before joining the Ecsite team Carmen worked for the music industry and regularly organised large events, an experience she will be feeding into the session.

Nathalie will be facilitating the exhibition exploration group, together with Mai.
Nathalie develops “nature inspired” project management in order to experiment both scientific and social aspects of sustainability. She also rethinks relationships between the exhibition space, its audiences and neighbours to stimulate circular economy and lead, in synergy with designers and manufacturers, reflections on creative ways to use sustainable materials and upcycling at the museum.
Sustainability Development Manager
