Many institutions in the field of science education such as science centers try to motivate young people for the natural sciences and technology. They often use exhibits well designed and nice to look at. Many institutions, however, have realised that practical work i.e. performing experiments by oneself motivates young people much better than simple exhibits. Children and young people find it fascinating and enjoyable if they can do experiments – like a real scientist. Considering that sciences intensively influence our daily life, it should create an even deeper interest of young people in this field when offering experiments related to things in our daily life or experiences we make. The proposed session will take into account both these aspects in that all participants of this practical workshop “Place du Marché” will present hands-on-experiments, which young people could do by themselves at science centers, schools or even places with little equipment, and which have relevance to our daily life. Participants of this international session come from several places in Europe and the US. They will present experiments from the fields of Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Technology, which will be related to different age groups (elementary, primary, secondary). During 3 hours, visitors of this workshop will be able to perform experiments by themselves or they may get demonstrations of how an experiment could be performed with groups of young people at schools, in teaching labs or science centers.
