Make, investigate and celebrate Christmas at Life with all the family.

Included in your science centre ticket are festive-themed Science Theatre shows, making Christmas decorations, coding Christmas tree light patterns and investigating the properties of fake snow.

Visitors can even make their own ink to write a letter to Santa and be dazzled at Science busking Christmas demonstrations. (Some activities are for ages 7+ only).

The new Space Zone will show video messages, recorded by astronauts as they spent the holidays on the International Space Station!

Game On 2.0 explores the vibrant history, culture and future of gaming, entertainment and technology through more than 150 playable games.

Visitors can play a range of games from arcade classics to modern favourites, including fun party games, such as Rock Band 3.

The exhibition also explores the latest developments in gaming, including how virtual reality is creating ever-more immersive gaming experiences.

Whether you prefer a Mars or a Milky Way, Life Science Centre is a feast for the whole Galaxy this Easter and children go free* until 6 May 2019!

It wouldn’t be Easter without chocolate, so enjoy a scrumptious scientific chocolate demonstration that puts your senses to the test!

Join us for the Big Drop Challenge: you will have a few minutes and an array of materials to create a contraption that will be dropped from a great height. Will it float, spin, tumble or fly?

A couple by Museum of the Moon

It has created a sensation across the world and now Museum of the Moon will shine in Life Science Centre in Newcastle from 2 February until 6 May 2019.

The seven-metre-wide spherical artwork, created by UK artist Luke Jerram, is suspended in the air and displays NASA imagery of the lunar surface. This allows visitors to explore the Moon’s surface in incredible detail – without ever stepping foot off the planet.

Take a whirl on our outdoor ice rink*, investigate fake snow in the Experiment Zone** and explore the winter night sky in the planetarium!

Want a white Christmas? Hop aboard The Polar Express Journey to the North Pole on the 4D Motion Ride**.

Children can also be immersed in a festive storytelling or get stuck into making seasonal creations to take home, including LED decorations and winter lanterns (weekends only outside of the school holidays).

Robots: hopes and fears – evening panel discussion

There are many ways in which robots could improve healthcare and wellbeing: robotic surgeons are already being used in highly intricate operations, including to treat patients with pancreatic and kidney cancer; in our aging society, robots could help to care for the elderly with humanoid carers; while the many people who are unable to drive for health reasons could find greater independence thanks to driverless cars.

Robots - then and now exhibition at Life Science Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne

Robots – then and now, developed by the Science Museum in London, tells the 500-year, work in progress story of building automated machines, from the humble beginnings of 16th century mechanical automatons to the latest humanoids – and everything in between.

The new exhibition is included in the admission ticket to Life Science Centre, along with hands-on zones for learning through creative play, educational shows in the Science Theatre and the planetarium, and a thrilling journey on the 4D Motion Ride*.

The giraffe specimen from ANIMAL INSIDE OUT

Get under nature’s skin with this unforgettable exhibition featuring real animals preserved through plastination. From goats to giraffes, elephants to eels and octopuses to ostriches - embark on an anatomical safari exploring more than 100 real animal specimens. Marvel at the muscles supporting the neck of the 5m tall giraffe and stand face to face with an adult gorilla. Thanks to the science of plastination, invented by Dr Gunther von Hagens, each animal has been painstakingly preserved allowing visitors to see what lies beneath nature’s skin in intricate detail.

Summer holidays at Life Science Centre

Families are invited to explore an activity trail through Life Science Centre’s blockbuster exhibition Robots – then and now this summer holidays as part of an action-packed day at the visitor attraction.

Filled with quizzes, games and activities, the Robots Activity Trail helps younger visitors to get as much out of Life’s new exhibition as their parents, as they explore 500 years of robotic discovery.
