In society, there are number of issues related to science and technology that may not be dealt with solely with scientific arguments from specialists. Solutions or measures that can be more efficient or acceptable may be obtained by involving citizens. Deliberation among citizens would also deepen their thoughts, and lead them to active-and-innovative engagement to meet the challenges of the future.
In this session, we will focus on a unique global citizen participation event called “World Wide Views on Biodiversity”, which was held simultaneously at 34 venues in 25 countries on 15 September 2012. Speakers will present the results of individual meetings and discuss the meaning of such deliberation for society, its potential among citizens, and the role of museums as venues for such dialogues.
