The Museum für Naturkunde - Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science - is a research museum within the Leibniz Association. It is devoted to basic research and education in all fields of natural history, with a focus on biodiversity, evolution and earth sciences.
The Collections of the Museum are directly linked to research. They comprise more than 30 million items relating to zoology, palaeontology, geology and mineralogy, which are highly significant for science as well as for the history of science.
The Museum runs a variety of research projects with third party funding and is a driving actor in strengthening the interface between science, policy and the broader public. It has more than 250 staff members and its museum exhibitions attract more than 500,000 visitors each year.
