EXTRA, the marketplace for scientific touring exhibitions.
Water, the exhibition provides an opportunity to follow water on its surprising journey, across 21 small islands: from its birth in the cosmos to its arrival on Earth; its omnipresence with regard to the evolution of life, the way that it supports us in such an intimate and essential way, and the necessity of preserving it for the coming generations.
The exhibition is organised around 3 themes:
- Water and life : Water is omnipresent in the cosmos. Why is there so much water ? How has water made life possible ? These questions express the essential role of water in the history of the Earth and life.
- Water and man : Man has always ascribed a highly symbolic role to water. But men has also worked to control it and make use of it. The coastlines harbour a high proportion of the earth’s population. But is this proximity to water really without risk?
- Water and societies : Today, water is a precious commodity. Although Man would like to ensure its fair distribution for everyone, he pollutes it. An optimistic future remains possible by encouraging all the people to approach the way they manage and consume water responsibly.
