EXTRA, the marketplace for scientific touring exhibitions.
Deep in the rainforest of Guatemala are the ruins of a high civilization which have fascinated mankind and science for centuries. Nevertheless, a lot of myths still exist about the Maya. This exhibition aims to uncover these myths and sheds light on the true story of the Maya. During the Spanish conquest numerous Maya artifacts and scriptures were destroyed. The exhibition shows over 300 original objects, some just recently discovered and never seen outside Guatemala before.
The exhibition gives deep insight into the history and culture of the Maya, then and today. It shows the simple life of the population as well as the wealth of kings and the collapse of kingship.
