On 10 September 2017 Technopolis won the Creativity Prize during the Red Bull Soapbox Race in Kluisbergen (Belgium). In addition the science centre’s team managed to secure a place within the top 10 by racing down the steepest sloop ever within 48 seconds.

Technopolis was the centre of attention with the spectacular design of its self-made soapbox and the crew’s matching costumes. In fact, host Tom Waes even called it the most beautiful soapbox he had seen during the competition. Apparently the judges shared the host’s opinion, because Technopolis won the Creativity Prize. Technopolis referred to the design as STREAM punk, a combination of the genre steam punk and STREAM (Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics), the latter being the pillars on which Technopolis builds its strategy to appeal to more youngsters. STREAM name also refers to the science centre’s new YouTube channel and blog which are called Technopolis STREAM. In order to make it more attractive the crew added a touch of punk.
