EXTRA, the marketplace for scientific touring exhibitions.
In just 24 hours Pompeii and neighboring Herculaneum were buried by a catastrophic volcanic eruption in 79 AD. The site was lost for centuries and remained mostly untouched until 1748. Now the most advanced scientific research in history brings to light the extraordinary achievements of Pompeii and the Roman world. Through artworks, interactive mechanical devices and multi-media experiences, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time and space into the daily life of a first-century Roman town. It puts visitors at the center of events as they hear and feel the roar of the volcano as it erupts before their eyes. Lastly, visitors learn about the rediscovery and excavation of Pompeii. Archaeology was acknowledged as a scientific study upon the rediscovery and excavation of Pompeii in 1748. As guests exit the exhibition, they have the opportunity to play the role of archaeologist through the use of multiple digital interactives and replicas of artifacts of Pompeii.
