14-18 – It’s Our History, a flagship exhibition among the activities commemorating the centenary of the First World War in Belgium, charts the four years of a war that left Europe and the whole of humanity scarred and changed our world forever. While the exhibition focuses on the conflict itself, it does not neglect the experiences of civilians during the occupation of Belgium, bringing every detail to life through highly realistic reconstructions, personal accounts, multimedia equipment, documents and remarkable objects.

Housed by the renowned Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, the exhibition makes imaginative use of impressive backdrops, multimedia displays, films and immersive spaces to explore the various stages of the First World War. As visitors discover eyewitness accounts and view extraordinary objects and documents, they gain a unique insight into the mobilisation of Europe’s states, life under occupation, the war itself and its repercussions, which are still felt in the present day.

The exhibition appeals to visitors of all ages thanks to its first-class educational tools. Its broad-based approach helped it to attract over 175,000 visitors from all four corners of the world during its run (February 2014 to November 2015). It also won the Visit Brussels Most Noted Exhibition 2014 Award and the TOF de la COM Trophy in the PR/Event category.
