The planetarium offers a spectacular and engaging arena for experiencing all types of science. Previously dedicated to astronomy, the development of new digital technologies has broadened the spectrum of planetarium content and full dome films which are available in a wide variety of subjects. But the process of creating new content is slow and often technically challenging which means only a few producers worldwide are able to create the content that is showcased and distributed all over the world.
New interactive tools and technologies that allow non-technical professionals to get better access to the planetarium could potentially broaden available content for planetariums, allowing new stories and new types of storytelling to be tested, evaluated and developed. But what are the required tools and how can we find new ways to communicate science using the planetarium? How do we make the planetarium more interactive and engaging for the audience?
In this panel session four speakers, all from the planetarium field, will discuss the possibilities and difficulties of bringing new content to planetariums.
