Do you know the Theory of 21 December 2012 end of time?
On Thursday, 20 December 2012, the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) held a lecture discussing the Theory of End of Time & the Mayan’s Calendar, at the Planetarium theater.
Mr. JAMES D. EDGAR, an overseas traveler, who is fascinated by mythology and ancient civilizations, presented a unique presentation offering a non-academic introduction to Mayan cosmology, mythology and symbolism, drawing on historical elements. Also, the Center’s Astrologist, Dr.
The final Science: it’s a Girl Thing! Gender Day happened at Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland, 5 December 2012. This event challenged the popular stereotypes and proved that science is not all about older men in glasses.
The Polish Gender Day aimed at promoting exact sciences among women as a choice for professional career and breaking the stereotypes linked to the traditional division of career paths into typically male and female ones.
Realizing his distinguished stature, the Planetarium Science Center proudly hosts the Fermi Legacy Exhibition, which comprises 10 panels, and 8 groups of photos, and numerous quotations; describing his background, his life, and his achievements and contributions as one of the 20th century leading scientists. The exhibition is taking place at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conferences Center – West Exhibition Hall. This exhibition has been presented by the Italian Embassy in Egypt, to be displayed during the period 6 – 25 November.
Observations, fieldtrips, star parties, workshops, lectures, and movies; all are activities of the new Amateur Astronomy Club (AAC) initiated by the PSC. The aim of this club is providing a chance for amateur astronomers to practice astronomy for interest and enjoyment, under the supervision of the PSC specialists. The program comprises a series of events through a period of 3 months, starting from Thursday 27th September.
The Planetarium Science Center has organized a cycling event on Friday 5th October morning (6:00 am), as a part of celebrating its 10th anniversary. The trip included riding bikes from Gleem to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina premises in Chatby (a distance of 2 KM). This event aimed to encourage healthy habbits like waking early, playing sports, and healthy eating, through spending an active and enjoyable time, with good company!
As part of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina 10th Anniversary celebrations, the BA Planetarium Science Center has organized The Environment Day, aiming to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving the Egyptian environment. The event comprised a diversity of interactive scientific and cultural activities, designed to suit different ages and social backgrounds, presented in a simplified layout inside a number of booths and a gigantic tent, set on the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Plaza.
The PSC has started the first semester workshops for groups this October. Workshops are mainly targeting school trips, in groups of 10 – 25 students. The workshops have various themes and are categorized according to school years. The workshops comprise hands-on scientific activities, that present scientific knowledge in a simplified and interesting approach, which would increase the students’ apptitude to science.
After years of success, the Planetarium (PSC) has celebrated its tenth anniversary. “10 years of Science Communication” closing ceremony welcomed school and college students, together with their families to share our pride in the past achievements, and our enthusiasm about the future aspirations. The ceremony took place at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conferences Center’ Great Hall. It included a very interesting movie about the Center’s activities during its history which was full with creativity, hardwork, learning, and teamwork.
