Open to the world, Europe and beyond, Universcience welcomed a group of 34 young scientists from 20 countries to discuss the theme "Science and Sport"

From 3 to 9 December 2023, Universcience organised, in partnership with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and in scientific partnership with the French National Institute for Sport, Expertise and Performance (INSEP), the fourth edition of the residency for young international scientific talent, dedicated to the theme of "sport & science" for this Olympic year. This residency was officially certified “Cultural Olympiad” by Paris 2024. As part of the programme put together by Universcience, this project enabled 34 talented young scientists (18 women and 16 men) from 20 countries to explore the relationship between sport and science at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie and the Etincelles du Palais de la découverte.

After two preparatory videoconference sessions, they were able to visit the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, including the Space Mission and Climate Emergency exhibitions, the Cité des enfants 2-7 ans and 5-12 ans, Crowds with the Accessibility Department of Universcience and the Science News exhibition. The Étincelles shows at the Palais de la découverte were also featured, as was the Bodies and Sport exhibition produced by Universcience and presented at Croissy-sur-Seine.

A number of participatory workshops were held on scientific journalism, exhibition design and e-sport. A speed meeting with science facilitators provided an opportunity to discuss the jobs and challenges of scientific communication at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie and the Palais de la découverte. The INSEP also hosted the young researchers for an entire day, offering them an exceptional tour of its facilities and a chance to talk to its associated researchers. During the week, the promotion of young scientific talent had the privilege of being welcomed at the Minister of Foreign affairs (see picture). At the end of the residency, each young scientist presented his or her research project to the group, institutional partners and Universcience teams in the Three Minute Thesis format.
