The call for proposals for the 2015 Ecsite Annual Conference closed yesterday at midnight. We received 168 session proposals (that’s 11 more than last year), 7 pre-Conference workshop proposals, 28 travelling exhibition proposals and 4 project showcase poster proposals!

The Malta Council for Science and Technology for and on behalf the Foundation for Science and Technology is launching a Call for Expressions of Interest for artists to submit proposals from design, to installation of art pieces with a science related theme for the Esplora National Interactive Science Centre, Marina Street, Bighi, Kalkara.
Life Science Centre is delighted to announce that BODY WORLDS Vital, the world famous exhibition of plastinated bodies has been extended at the Centre until 30 November! BODY WORLDS Vital is an awe-inspiring journey through the human body, celebrating its complexity, beauty and potential. The exhibition brings together a collection of real human bodies, specimens, organs and body slices which have been willed by donors and preserved through Plastination, a ground-breaking method for specimen preservation invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens.
The first Portuguese Mini Maker Faire, hosted by Pavilion of Knowledge – Ciência Viva last weekend was a huge success, with 280 makers and around 10 thousand visitors.

WHAT is the NAMES?
The target of the North Africa and Middle East Science centers network (NAMES) is to provide professional development for the science center field in the North Africa and Middle East region. NAMES aims to promote best practices, to support effective communication and to strengthen the position of science centers within the community at large.
In 2015, the Malta Council for Science and Technology will open the doors to the National Interactive Science Center, a complex that will occupy several of the most imposing and magnificent buildings overlooking the entrance into the Grand Harbour in Malta. The site comprises of 4 buildings and an outdoor space each of which will be pivotal to displaying exhibits and presenting live science. One of the buildings will be a stunning 10.7 meter in diameter planetarium, where a complete Colorspace 4K theater system will be built and installed.
The conference will be hosted by MUSE in Trento (Italy), 11-13 June 2015. Use the forum to propose ideas, look for speakers and convenors, share tips… You will then be able to submit proposals from mid August til beginning of October.
Local government was threatening to cut funding for Austrian Ecsite member wissens.wert.welt but thanks to the help of the many people who signed the online petition and rose awareness, the science centre will stay open.
One of the Intel Bibliotheca Alexandrina Science and Engineering Fair 2014 top three grand awards winners, Sara Ezat, Mona ELsayed and hoda Shoman, two from dakahlia governorate and one from Sharkia governorate, got the third grand award in enviromental sciences category at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2014 held in LA, California, USA 13-16 May 2014.
