During the period 27—28 November 2013, the Planetarium Science Center in collaboration with the Arab Academy for Science & Technology and Maritime Transport, Regional Informatics Center (AASTMT/RIC) will hold a local robotics competition called Robotheca Alexandrina Olympiad (RAO). RAO is dedicated to students 12 to 18 years old. It comprises two categories; Diver Robot and Robofight category. In 2012 the PSC launched a Robotics educational program in cooperation with AASTMT/RIC. The program is composed of two levels, each comprising 10 hands-on sessions.
Camouflage, shadows, conjuring tricks, robots... all fake. Or maybe not? This new interactive exhibition Imitation, the art of faking it examines many different types of imitation, in nature, technology and human behaviour.
The Planetarium Science Center (PSC) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the seventh Science Festivity under the overarching theme of “Natural Hazards”. The Festivity aims to advance and share the knowledge of hazards mitigation and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. International Masterclasses are organized by IPPOG, the International Particle Physics Outreach Group and the Planetarium Science Center, at the third and forth floating rooms in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conferences Center. Each Masterclass is a one-day-activity taking place at a university or research institute. Researchers invite High school students, aged 16 – 19 and let them be scientists for one day. The core activity is a measurement with real data from CERN, provided by the experiments ATLAS, CMS, and ALICE, see: http://physicsmasterclasses.org/neu/index.php?cat=physics.
Organized by the Planetarium Science Center, Intel-BASEF is a competition designed to increase the school students’ (age 14–18 years ) awareness of the importance of scientific research and to discover the youth innovative and research capacities. Intel-BASEF participants are requested to research a certain topic, from among 17 scientific themes.
Astronomy is one of the few sciences where amateurs can conduct an active role, particularly in discovering and monitoring transient phenomena, such as comets, novae and supernovae. The Planetarium Science Center (PSC) will initiate the Amateur Astronomy Club (AAC), where the amateur astronomers can practice astronomy for interest and enjoyment, under the supervision of the PSC. The Program comprises 9 days within the period March 7th to April 27th, presented to youths of ages 10 – 16 years.
Thirty-three years have elapsed since ”la Caixa” Foundation’s Science Museum opened its doors in Barcelona. Following twenty-four years of activity and museological reflection, CosmoCaixa, as the museum is known today, came into being. Since then, it has received six million visitors as well as recognition from the European Museum Forum in the form of the European Museum of the Year Award 2006.
INSPIRE (INternational “Science Performance Is Ready” Event)
During the five day workshop, participants will very actively learn how to: choose a topic for the science show, start planning a science show, add humour without being silly, avoid mistakes and traps, engage audience in active participation, develop acting skills needed for successful performance, communicate Science.
This year Ljubljana Science Festival – Sciencetival will partly overlap with the INSPIRE workshop providing a perfect environment for the participants to test their learned skills in front of public.
Bringing science to Life! – the Super Science Show(SSS) is fun, fast-paced and most importantly, educational! The Super Science Show is a theatrical show where science is animated in a fun and exciting manner. Life on the stage, the viewers will discover the marvels of science through magical demonstrations. Demonstrations are based on the scientific integration of the different fields of science like chemistry, physics and biology to excite school students and stimulate their curiosity to learn.
