November 5, 2015 marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of the Copernicus Science Centre. These past five years have been a time of joy, surprises and opportunities to learn: we have found out a lot about our visitors; we have been improving the Centre on an ongoing basis; and now we are on the eve of bigger changes that have been planned for the whole exhibition space in the coming months. We have also had a chance to learn a lot about the Centre, which allowed us to identify our social role and determine our organisation’s identity.
The beauty of science
In order to promote the idea of social development based on education, science, technology and innovation – on the 12th of September a nationwide campaign “SPiN Day – for the Society and Science” will be organised by Porozumienie Społeczeństwo i Nauka SPiN (Society and Science Agreement). It is the first event of this kind implemented on such a scale by science communicators in Poland.
Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland, has been visited by as many as five million people for less than 5 years. Record holders come back to Copernicus more than 30 times a year.
The 4th Polish edition of FameLab has just started. Polish speaking scientists are welcomed to apply until 31 January 2015 and take their 3 minutes to speak about science.
Yesterday Ecsite member Copernicus (Warsaw, Poland), received a visit from the Parliament’s Innovation Commission. They enthusiastically engaged in activities in “Thinkatorium”, Copernicus Science Centre’s tinkering space.
The final Science: it’s a Girl Thing! Gender Day happened at Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland, 5 December 2012. This event challenged the popular stereotypes and proved that science is not all about older men in glasses.
The Polish Gender Day aimed at promoting exact sciences among women as a choice for professional career and breaking the stereotypes linked to the traditional division of career paths into typically male and female ones.
Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, met with Ecsite President Robert Firmhofer at Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw, Poland, on 1 July, 2011.
Barosso made clear that he is very impressed by the Copernicus Science Centre after previewing its state-of-the-art full dome planetarium and browsing its galleries of experiments.
