A Netherlands-based consortium of experts and high-tech companies – some of which were also involved in the development of the London Eye – is launching a unique attraction: the Spiral Tower. The world’s first climate-neutral high-rise attraction, the Spiral Tower is an architectural eye-catcher. It features integrated solar panels, vertical gardens and is crowned with an urban windmill. The Spiral Tower will become a landmark for city centres, urban developments, expo terrains and parks, offering visitors 360-degree views of their surroundings.
NorthernLight has designed a unique kaleidoscopic experience for the Horticultural Expo in Beijing (April-October 2019). The installation – part of the Dutch government’s official presentation – provides a spectacular sneak preview of what visitors can expect during the Floriade Expo 2022 in Almere, the Netherlands.

Over 100 exhibits, from sketch to opening
After a tremendous three-year journey we are so excited that Germany’s most innovative science center has opened its doors. NorthernLight, in partnership with Bruns, has been responsible for the design, prototyping and construction of two of the four permanent galleries: Nature of Things, and World View. The journey involved the making of over 100 unique exhibits, activities and art-science installations. At its height, there was a team of over 50 people working in harmony to make all of this happen.
The Rijks app has been a big success since its launch in 2013, with over a millions downloads and rentals. Awarded with the FIAMP and Heritage in Motion Award amongst others. In the beginning of this year, the app got a technical and functional make over by Fabrique and Q42 and started its second life phase.
Knights and Castles, our traveling exhibition that gives a bright look at the dark ages, has arrived in its second location, LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn in Germany. First location was Museon in The Hague, third will be Museum Het Valkhof Nijmegen. After that it will continue on its tour through Europe, and by doing so, it symbolically links the life of people in today’s Europe to their shared medieval history.
Medieval characters, contemporary look
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: the circus is coming to town! When commissioned to reimagine the kids’ gallery for Ciência Viva – an interactive science-and-technology centre in Lisbon – NorthernLight created a vibrant, colourful playscape reminiscent of the circus. Bold graphics, bright hues, dazzling lights and kaleidoscopic mirrors invite kids to perform and play, while reconnecting parents to their childhood memories. The discovery of a park meets the emotion of a circus: you can almost smell the nostalgic wafts of popcorn, candyfloss and caramel.
Helping to instigate change
In August 2018 a NorthernLight design team travelled to Sarawak in the Malaysian portion of Borneo. A dynamic state characterized by lush jungles, crystal-clear oceans and abundant wildlife, Sarawak – like every other place on earth – is unfortunately struggling with environmental issues. In a bid to help instigate change, NorthernLight is designing a Children’s Gallery for the island’s new museum.
