The Experyment Science Centre in Gdynia is a leading science engagement institution in Poland. As one of the first science centres in the country, it has pioneered innovative approaches to connecting people with science through a variety of methods.
Experyment opened in 2007 and was significantly expanded in 2013 within the Pomeranian Science and Technology Park. Experyment welcomes 250,000 visitors a year, as audiences in its five interactive exhibitions covering 3500 square metres, and as participants in workshops and talks in its four laboratories and a lecture hall. It encourages active public engagement with science through interactive exhibitions - visitors can experience OPERATION HUMAN, an exploration of human biology; TREE OF LIFE, revealing the wonders of the natural world; INVISIBLE FORCES, illuminating the fundamental principles of physics; TOWARDS HEALTH, promoting holistic wellbeing; and HYDROWORLD, exploring the power of water.
We create a friendly environment for the expansion of knowledge and provide opportunities for growth for individuals and communities. We want to inspire everyone to build a better future together, with science and sustainability in mind. The Experyment Science Centre uses four laboratories - Steam, Start-up, Bio-chem and Eco-social - and offers dynamic events, workshops, lectures and science shows.
- Educational workshops for pre-school children, schools and organised groups, with a different programme each year,
- Family programmes, consisting of regular workshops twice a month and special events, including broadly defined holidays such as the May Bank Holiday, Children's Day and school holidays,
- Teacher programmes, which cover regular training, the Action-Education conference and “Ambasador Experymentu”, a long-term loyalty programme for teachers,
- Initiatives such as #StopFakeNews and #FutureSkillsZone address key societal challenges by equipping youth with critical skills for positive social impact,
- Programmes for adults and seniors, i.e. monthly meetings for adults on a wide range of topics in two cycles - "Science Café" for adults and "Curious about the World" for seniors, as well as a unique alternative for Valentine's Day: NaukoweLove (ScienceLove) and special offers linked to the project's engagement plans.
We are also involved in many initiatives outside our main site and exhibition.
- Workshops, science shows and cultural activities during picnics and events such as design days, a street food festival and a music festival in the city of Gdynia engage the local community with science,
- Presence at national science festivals, such as the Silesian Science Festival, builds brand awareness and helps other stakeholders increase engagement with science.
We work closely with the local and regional researchers. Together with Tricity universities, we organise the Pomeranian Researchers' Night and the ScienceCom conference. We also connect the local society with researchers carrying out citizen science projects.
