EXTRA, the marketplace for scientific touring exhibitions.
The exhibition, 'Mind the Brain' presents current knowladge about the human brain, and the brain research being done during the Human Brain Project, an EU flagship project.
The exhibition was presented for a pilot period in the Bloomfield Science Museum Jerusalem (Israel) and in the Copernicus Science Center in Wesaw (Poland).
The exhibition consists of Eight hands-on surroundings, each invites the visitor to act in a physical or digital media:
1. Opening Screen - The visitor can choose one of seven video clips to play by touching the screen. An eighth option is an interactive map of Europe, presenting the distribution of the HBP institutes allowing the visitors to travel between countries and learn more about the scientific work in the HBP.
2. A Cell Decision - Visitors can move two sliders which change the input to a neuron model. By pressing the button, the input is transmitted to the cell and either activates the cell or not. A video clip presented on the screen, is being affected by the choice of the visitor.
3. Neuron Under Construction - A computerized exhibit allowing the visitors to mimic the reconstruction process done in biological labs. As part of the process the visitors mark the branches of the neuron and construct a 3d model based on it.
4. Doctor for a Moment - A computerized exhibit in which visitors encounter a virtual patient and have to run tests in order to diagnose the patient properly.
5. Brain Atlas - A computerized brain atlas allowing the visitors to explore the brain by choosing different regions and gain information about their role.
6. Light Up the Brain - The exhibit shows a human brain slice placed between two polarizers (with the assistance of Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin).
7. High Pitch - A video-art by an artist-in-residence that was part of the brain research center in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
8. My Mind on the Brain - Several ethical statements are presented on the wall. Visitors can choose whether they agree with the statement or not, describe their opinion on a sticky note and place it on the wall.
This exhibit also includes 10 short science articles specifically tailored to young readers (with assistance of 'Frontiers for Young Minds').
