Ecsite is the European network of science centres and museums with 400 institutional members. The common thread uniting these institutions is a commitment to public engagement, communicating science through accessible, interactive exhibits and programmes.
Ecsite, the European network of science centers and museums (www.ecsite.eu) is making available 15 subsidies (up to € 2 500 each) to promote local, city-based collaborative initiatives on dialogue and science engagement. 36 applications were submitted by local administrations, science centres and museums, associations, NGOs, institutions and individuals.

The call is now open for the Xplore Health Outreach Committee. This call aims to identify five members of an Outreach Committee, from five different science centres or museums whose working languages are English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Polish, to take part in the XploreHealth project, conducting a focus group, organising two events in 2011 with “open lab” experimental workshops and dialogue activities in each science centre or museum, and establishing and developing long-term links with local health researchers and other stakeholders.
Ecsite held an official side event within the COP15 conference in Copenhagen on December 15th 2009, entitled “Science centres, museums and aquaria commit to action on climate change.” The side event was organised in conjunction with the World Ocean Network, and took place within the framework of the ACCENT project.
Ecsite was an official observer organisation at the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, December 7-18 2009. The network organised a side event in order to highlight the role of science centres, museums and aquaria in public engagement on climate change.
On November 21-22 2008 the Ecsite Directors’ Forum took place in Valencia, Spain hosted by the Museum of Arts and Sciences Principe Felipe.
On 3rd and 4th September 2009, science communication professionals met in Trieste to discuss future developments for the dialogue game Decide and other such dialogue activities.
The next Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF2010) will take place in Torino, Italy, on 2-7 July 2010, under the slogan “Passion for Science”. It will be a unique opportunity to meet and discuss important issues in which science and technology play a central role.
The Pilots project today launched its European survey on the status, the roles, the activities and the training needs of explainers. As part of the Pilots project, Ecsite and the project consortium are gathering data in order to produce research on these areas.

We are looking for your most successful, interesting and inspiring exhibits. Whether an immersive experience or a simple game, we want to hear about it. You can submit as many exhibits as you like in the survey. Ecsite will gather the entries and identify the exhibits that would best fit in the Musée des Confluences in Lyon, France.
