Strengthening school visits to our exhibitions
Science centres and museums reach out to schools because they are an important target group.
Many teachers and students visit our exhibitions on their own. Sometimes schools come unprepared and don’t have a clear purpose for their visit. This can create a missing link between the experience and learning happening at the exhibition and what’s going on in the science class at school.
This session will focus on learning concepts that are concrete attempts to strengthen school visits to science exhibitions, making sure that schools get the optimum out of their visit. The aim is to support and bring the teacher's professionalism into play before, during and after a visit. This ensures that studentsreach the desired learning outcomes and can link what they learn in the exhibition to the learning going on at school.

Session speakers
Experimentarium will focus on why we have chosen to develop a learning concept inspired by the method Flipped Learning. We will share with you some insight on our cooperation with The University College of Copenhagen in the developing of the concept and give examples on how the concept has had an impact on the students’ learning. Furthermore, we will give examples of how the school visits are supported by the method and which challenges we encountered.
University College Copenhagen
University College Copenhagen will share the theory behind flipped learning and why it can be an important tool to strengthen school visits to a science centre. We will also try and respond to what a University College gains from cooperating with a science centre on developing a new learning concept. Finally, we will share some of our research of the concept behind flipped learning and the teachers’ and the students’ feedback.

The Tycho Brahe Planetarium in Copenhagen, Denmark communicates subjects, that are often seen as abstract and far fetched. But at the same time astronomy and space are subjects that fascinate many students. With the new exhibition Made in Space, we have worked with inclusion both in designing the exhibition. We have developed material to prepare students and teachers to navigate and learn in the exhibition. This talk will be in collaboration with Tina Ibsen, Head of Science and Outreach at Tycho Brahe Planetarium.

Citta della Scienza was visited by more than 200.000 visitors in 2017, of which 60% was made up of school visits. Schools are our main target group and we act as a bridge organizing activities and programmes to strengthen their participation in our museum. We use the exhibits as the starting point for schools to deepen the content through our labs and workshop.
Smart Education & Technology Days is one of the main activities we dedicate to the school world. It is a national convention dedicated to the world of schools the past edition welcomed over 3,500 participants between teachers and educators) in which Città della Scienza acts as a bridge between state schools and schools.
