Since 1969, the Exploratorium has influenced generations of entrepreneurs, artists, scientists, teachers, students, children, museum professionals and everyday doers, reaching nearly 180 million people annually from around the globe. On April 17, 2013, the Exploratorium opened at a new home on Pier 15 in the heart of San Francisco's waterfront district, with over 650 exhibits -- both indoors and out. The new location allowss the Exploratorium to showcase its classic authentic and participatory exhibits as well as explore new subject areas in six main galleries, from human behavior to the invisible life of San Francisco Bay and the city, an expanded Tinkering Studio, a Bay Observatory Gallery, and outdoor gallery that explores wind, fog, rain, and other outdoor phenomena. With this new home, the Exploratorium celebrates a new era of experiences all made in the Exploratorium's machine shop, that encourage critical thinking and awaken wonder for generations to come.
