The online science communication ecosystem has rapdily developed since the end of the 1990's. It is becoming increasingly complex, with the number of actors involved exploding and the platforms and forms of communication becoming more diverse and fragmented as time goes by. We already know how certain areas of this landscape look like but there are still grey areas and we lack a broad overview that captures some of its complexity.
Rethink has started mapping this digital science communication landscape by studying seven European countries: Italy, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Sweden and the UK. The volume and diversity of science-related content within these countries makes a detailed mapping a challenging, if not impossible, exercise. Therefore this report does not cover all the actors involved nor all the forms of online science. What it does is it attempts to map the diversity of actors and contents they produce.
In the report that we attach you will find in the first part an explanation on how the field in each country was defined and mapped and in the second part the results of the mapping. Sit back, relax and enjoy your read.
