Last week, Curiosity centre ZINOO organised — in partnership with the Riga Technical University — its second and last ERC=Science² event on Artificial Intelligence and Robots. During this 3-day event that put a special focus on A.I., robots, and the future of the labour market, a series of activities for engineering students, school students, and the general public were organised at the Curiosity centre and at the Riga Technical University.
Following their first ERC=Science² event on Music that took place in September 2018, ZINOO introduced the last theme of the project to its Latvian audience with an unusual music performance as three robots played three different instruments at the event's opening on 6 March. Latvian musician Gundega Graudina joined this uncommon band, which was followed by a discussion with Mr. Pauls Irbins, director of science centre ZINOO; Ieva Siliņa, Chairwoman, Association of Latvian Young Scientists; and Karlis Goba, developer at the company TILDE, virtual assistant and machine translation products, Researcher from the Riga Technical University in the field of AI/ Robotics.
On the second day, the project's interactive stand was placed at the Riga Technical University and the content of the ERC funded research on A.I. was presented to the students visiting the stand and the general audience. Scientists of the ERC funded project BUCOPHSYS — which is led by ERC grantee Prof. Dimos Dimarogonas — Andrea Bisoffi and Alexandros Nikou, from KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), presented the BUCOPHSYS research to engineering students.
On 8 March, a thematic day on “Artificial intelligence and robots in our labour market” for pupils and their teachers was organised at Curiosity centre ZINOO. Pupils attended three hands-on workshops and constructed the robot that might take over human tasks in the future by using LEGO MIND-STORM sets.
