Registration and grant application are open for the third edition of JCOM Masterclasses, the short, intensive international training courses to empower museum staff, scientists, senior-middle managers of cultural institutions and other professionals to communicate science through different media to various audiences.
The four courses – each one lasting five days – include theoretical presentation, practical workshop and peer-to-peer learning. Speakers are leading professionals in the sector, researchers in science communication and experts at an international level.
Three courses are especially tailored for the training needs of the Ecsite community:
Developing successful museums and science centres
26 - 30 September 2016
Best practices to develop and operate science centres and museums relating to our natural and cultural heritage, and supporting programmes for the public.
Facilitating the debate on the scientific and technological development
17 - 21 October 2016
How to facilitate discussions on controversial issues and scientific applications, through science cafés, discussion games and other participatory procedures.
Developing successful exhibitions
7 - 11 November 2016
Best practices to develop interactive exhibitions that include hands-on exhibits, multimedia, video installations and other new technologies and approaches.
The courses will be held at the Adriatico Guesthouse of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste (Italy).
Standard fee is Euros 950, but 30% reduction is applied to Ecsite members and other international networks and institutions. The ICTP offers grants to cover all participation costs of scientists and professionals working in a developing country.

JCOM Masterclasses are organized by Sissa Medialab with the partnership of SISSA, ICTP, ICGEB, and Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste and the collaboration of the Trieste Architect Association.
165 participants from 50 different countries attended the past editions of the JCOM Masterclasses, reporting to have gained theoretical knowledge, practical guidelines, new ideas and inspiration.
