Summary
Wellcome Collection team is looking for a interim Head of Public Programmes to lead the Public Programmes team to deliver a lively, relevant and stimulating programme of exhibitions, events, publications and other public-facing activities for Wellcome Collection in order to help achieve Wellcome’s aims as set out in the Strategic Approach and enhance the cultural and public profile of the Wellcome Trust and its work.
Experience & Skills
- Appropriate management experience in a public cultural institution, with accountability for staff and budget management
- Track record of innovative and popular public programming – with understanding of cross platform activity: events, exhibitions, conferences, digital, publications and broadcast
- Significant background in sciences, humanities and arts
- Experience of strategic venue planning plus board-level accountability and advocacy for public programmes
- Experience of project and financial management
- Experience of event and/or exhibition development and management
- Proven ability to directly produce and manage exhibitions and performance/debate/theatre
- Excellent verbal and communication skills. Confident public speaking skills; stakeholder engagement at all levels; and media work
- Good understanding of design and architectural work (visual and spatial judgement)
- Excellent understanding of interdisciplinary work and practice
- Proven ability to deal with all levels of staff and the general public and build internal and external relationships, gaining the respect and trust of staff
- Able to present technical information to a lay public
Education & Qualifications
- Masters degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience gained through informal/independent study, evidenced by e.g. publication/conference papers
- Some working knowledge of current and/or historical bioscience, medicine and health issues gained through academic study, self-directed study or professional experience
Duration: 12 months
Salary range: dependent upon experience
