Explore the house of today, take a look at the construction site and be surprised in the city of the future in the new family exhibition at NEMO. How is a sturdy house built? Would you rather live in a bicycle caravan or on a boat? And how can we build more sustainably in the future? You will discover more about innovative building, housing and living in Building!, from 9 July to 30 October 2022 in NEMO Science Museum.
There is a lot involved in building a house. You need space to put up a house and the house must have a solid structure. "Visitors can work on their own in the temporary exhibition. In the house of today they discover how houses are built and what is hidden in the walls of a house. At the construction site, they investigate the solidity of a foundation and the construction of a house." says Esther Hamstra, exhibition maker NEMO Science Museum.
NEMO City focuses on new materials and sustainable solutions. This part of the exhibition was developed by Company New Heroes. "In this interactive display you can build your own biobased house with panels made of natural materials. This will introduce you to special raw materials such as fungi, cork, algae, seaweed, kombucha and egg," says artist Lucas De Man. "We must work together towards a sustainable, circular world. So circular and biobased building is already possible!"
