Due to social influences and misconceptions, girls do not find a way to engineering or applied sciences. A talent that is unknown, is unloved… To fight all prejudices Technopolis, the Flemish science center, organizes the Girls Only Technology Club from 10 to 12 years.
During 9 sessions the girls discover the basic techniques and create pieces of work with all kinds of material: (electrical) saws, drills, files, pliers, cutters, pincers, wood, metal, plexi… In the last session they show their mothers how they learnt to handle and work with these materials in a safe way.
The temporary exhibition that is now on display (until August 31, 2011) at Technopolis is Plantastic!
This fun and interactive science exhibition reveals the wonderful world of plants and shows how they interact with people, animals, insects and each other. The exhibition explains how we use plants in our daily lives often without realizing it, and how they are essential for the world’s survival.
Enter a magical realm with giant leafy canopies, massive seed pods and strange man-made-trees.
The 28th of March is the opening day of two new floors full of interactive exhibits. Besides two large exhibition halls, the premises also offer scientific laboratories, class-rooms and public hall for temporary exhibitions. The visitors can look forward to the demonstration of storm or earthquake, experiments with electricity, infrared imaging and lot more. Big attraction for visitors will represent regular weekend-scientific shows held in the new auditorium. Science is fun!
