Walking with the continents. Our planet a hundred years from the theory of Alfred Wegener.

Did you know that continents drift? Are you curious about how you got to make the current Theory of Plate Tectonics? Come to the exhibition “WALKING WITH THE CONTINENTS. Our planet a hundred years from the theory of Alfred Wegener “, the Science Museum of Camerino University has set up to mark the centenary of the formulation of the theory and find out. The exhibition will be open from 13 October 2012 to 10 January 2013. The character of Wegener, the German meteorologist and witty scientist, will accompany you on this journey through the history of the process of Earth evolution, and moving Earth! Will therefore explain phenomena such as the birth and growth of mountain ranges, the opening of new oceans, earthquakes and volcanoes. Display panels, interactive exhibits, 3D reconstructions and small experiments will guide you through the exhibition. Also provided workshops, theater performances and play-educational events for children.

Museo delle Scienze - Università di Camerino

Situated since 2003 in the splendid ex Convent of San Domenico, the Science Museum of Camerino University was founded in 1988. After the seismic crisis of august – october 2016, the museum is temporarily closed to the public. The most important collection of the Natural Science Museum in the field of natural history is the “Colfiorito Basin” fossil collection. Excavations have been carried out since 1987 in the two sites of Collecurti and Madonna del Piano, Colfiorito basin (Umbria-Marche Apennine), near Camerino.

This collection presents fossil bones belonging to hippopotamuses, elephants, rhinos and other Quaternary fauna.
