On 10 September 2017 Technopolis won the Creativity Prize during the Red Bull Soapbox Race in Kluisbergen (Belgium). In addition the science centre’s team managed to secure a place within the top 10 by racing down the steepest sloop ever within 48 seconds.
Mid 2017 Technopolis launched the online school competition Pitch and Play. Third grade teachers and students get the opportunity to build a new interactive exhibit that will ultimately be installed at Technopolis. The concept is entirely new in the Flemish education field, as the competition is based on an online gamification platform simulating a virtual entrepreneur environment. This way Technopolis endeavours to create an online community that co-creates the science centre’s future.
NorthernLight developed, designed and implemented Bright Ideas hub and challenge. The project is part of Shell’s ‘Generation Discover’ initiative and consists of a futuristic dome that will travel around The Netherlands for the coming 3 years, as well as an exciting digital challenge that can be done by children of group 7 of all Dutch primary schools. Through the Bright Ideas project, children can playfully discover the world of science and technology.
We are proud to have been part of the development team for the new Music Tour that has now been added to the Rijksmuseum app. NorthernLight was responsible for the concept, user experience design and content of the Rijksmuseum app, that is now in operation for 4 years and has had millions of users from around the world.
NorthernLight recently completed the design phase of the Sirius Art & Science Park. This ambitious project consists of the redevelopment of the media centre of the Olympic Village of Sochi. The aim is to turn the place into an enriching attraction that will become a destination for returning, multi-day visits. The project includes a talent development program as well.
Let’s YouTube, the world’s first exhibition about YouTube, has been nominated for the Children in Museums Award. This highly interactive exhibition, designed by NorthernLight for the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, enables visitors to experience the impact YouTube has on their lives. The exhibition has received a lot of attention in the media and on social media since its opening in October last year.
For the first time in the world, waiting rooms at railway stations have been enriched with precious objects and converted to mini museums. With the concept “The Museums of … “, NorthernLight follows the new identity of the three museums for world cultures, which are museums of and about people.
