Science Projects is a non-profit organisation specialising in the field of interactive exhibitions and exhibits. It operates The Observatory Science Centre in south-East England, an exhibition design and build service and travelling exhibitions for hire.
The adventure started in 1987 with their Discovery Dome, a travelling science centre which toured the UK complete with its own tent structure containing exhibits designed at their workshop. The concept of ‘hands-on exhibits’ was emerging in the UK and its popularity with visiting public was evident. Demand from teachers and museums led to the creation of new hands-on exhibitions, especially Exploring Science, and for schools: Science Works. Both sets of exhibitions have evolved over the years and are still rented out to schools, science centres, museums, festivals and libraries.
The opportunity to establish its own permanent Science Centre came when it took over the former site of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, which became The Observatory Science Centre, opened in 1995. Meanwhile its exhibition design and build service also continued to grow, now providing exhibits to clients from all over the world.
