The Museo de las Ciencias opened its doors to the public on November 2000.
Our aim is to approach the world of science to the general public, educating in an informal and entertaining way.
The Museum, with almost 30.000 sq meters of exhibition space, housed in the amazing structure designed by the valencian architect Santiago Calatrava, is doing its best in its commitment to improve scientific culture in the sense that basic knowledge about science and technology must be shared by everybody.
Against this spectacular backdrop, the Museum sets up its interactive exhibitions, most of them temporary, in its aim to communicate ideas rather than objects.
In addition, there is a festive atmosphere in our interactive Museum, open to all ages and levels of education. Because of its beautiful and magnificent building the Museum is also used as a venue for congresses, presentations, conferences and all kind of events.
This atmosphere has encouraged the so-called “cultural tourism”, wich in the case of Valencia explains the incredible influx of visitors in our city and to the whole complex of La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, being the Museum a part of this huge complex.
La Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, with a total surface of 350.000 sq meters, contains an IMAX theatre, planetariun and laserium: l’Hemisféric, also an oceanographic park –one of the biggest in Europe-: l’Oceanográfic, and an Opera Palace: Palau de les Arts, that will be opened soon.
This situation enables the Museum to take advantage of the synergies generated by the other units of the whole complex.
