On September 5–6, 2018, the Exploratorium (San Francisco, USA) hosted the Conference on Mobile Position Awareness Systems and Solutions (COMPASS). The 80 attendees were from throughout the United States, and from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. Speakers and panelists from museums, academia, industry, and research discussed indoor location projects related to informal learning, increasing accessibility, addressing privacy, and understanding visitor behavior.

The goal was to help museum professionals learn from and support each other's work and candidly exchange methods and results.
