Last week the project RRI Tools has been launched in Brussels, a three year long project funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007-2013) to foster Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Europe with a view to a harmonious and efficient relationship between science and European society.
RRI is a process where all societal actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business) work together during the whole research and innovation (R&I) process in order to align its outcomes to the values, needs and expectations of European society.
Ecsite is seeking a Project Manager who will be responsible for implementing activities related to projects funded by the European Commission to ensure they are carried out consistently and successfully in accordance with the project’s rules and work plan.
On Monday 20 January, ESA’s comet-chasing spacecraft Rosetta will wake up from 31 months of deep space slumber. ESA will streaming live from ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany, with full coverage of the day’s historic events as they unfold, starting at 09:15 GMT (10:15 CET)
Rosetta’s computer is programmed to re-establish contact with Earth on 20 January, starting with an ‘alarm clock’ at 10:00 GMT. Immediately afterwards, the spacecraft’s startrackers will begin to warm up, taking around six hours. Rosetta will then send a signal to Earth to announce that it is awake.
Welcome to the latest issue of the Ecsite Space Group newsletter. The Space Group is a forum of science centres, museums and space professionals across Europe working to communicate the wonders of space.
The Ecsite Membership Service Group has elaborated a survey that was sent to all Ecsite members. We have received 69 responses so far. Many thanks to all who took the time to share their thoughts, find the outcomes here . These preliminary results were discussed at the Directors Forum 2013.
Your feedback helps Ecsite define future adaptions and improvements for members which is why we are aiming for even more responses – optimally from 200 members.
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – European citizens are directly influencing the European Union research agenda for the first time through a ground-breaking consultation series financed by the European Commission and conducted by science centres and museums in 27 EU member states.
Save the date! The next Space Group meeting will be in sunny Granada, Spain! Parque de las Ciencias will be hosting us on Monday January 27th 2014.
A new Eurobarometer survey launched today (http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-13-1075_en.htm and http://ec.europa.eu/public_opinion/archives/eb_special_419_400_en.htm#401) shows public support for the European Commission’s latest strategy to engage the public in science, known as responsible research and innovation (RRI). The survey comes on the day Ecsite launches the outcomes of the VOICES project, a year-long, Europe-wide citizen consultation exploring the concept of waste as a resource.
The greatly-anticipated final outcomes are launched today for VOICES (www.voicesforinnovation.eu), Ecsite’s collaboration with the European Commission which demonstrates science centres and museums’ key role in Responsible Research and Innovation.
Get the toolkit! Thanks to surveys and online discussion events, the DESIRE project partners have built the “REACH OUT” toolkit: it is aimed at managers and coordinators of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) formal and informal education projects. It will help them awaken the stakeholders’ interest in their STEM project results and facilitate their use.
