EU-funded project Socientize allowed a wide consultation with citizen science stakeholders. A white paper aiming to “support policy makers on European, national and regional level when setting up future strategies of civic engagement in the excellence in science” has just been published. An engaging document that defines the characteristics of citizen science and maps challenges and possible actions at macro, meso and micro level.
Yesterday morning European Members of Parliament auditioned Research, Science and Innovation Commissioner-Designate Carlos Moedas from Portugal. Ecsite’s lobbying efforts paid: science and society got a mention in this highly visible hearing, thanks to Polish MEP Michał Boni who asked a question on the “Science for and with society” objective of the Horizon 2020 programme.
EU-funded KiiCS project brought together scientists, artists, innovators and local stakeholders in art&science innovation incubators hosted in science centres around Europe. An award was attributed to the most promising ideas generated during the project. The winners were announced last Saturday (26 September) at the Discovery Festival in Amsterdam, in two categories: adults and young adults.
Commissioner-Designates of the Juncker Commission team are being auditioned by the European Parliament as of today. These public hearings are preceding a plenary vote on 22 October – this is the time for MEPs to raise issues. Carlos Moedas, Portuguese Commissioner-Designate for the Research, Science and Innovation portfolio will be interviewed tomorrow. Polish MEP Michał Boni agreed to ask Moedas about his roadmap on ‘Science with and for society’ – a part of the Horizon 2020 framework dear to Ecsite and the science engagement sector at large.
A classic... The European Researchers' Night takes place every year all over Europe and beyond the last Friday of September. In 2014, these popular science events are happening on Friday 26 September in around 300 cities located in 24 European and neighbouring countries.
A special report published by the Brussels-based specialist company Science|Business presents a first analysis. Includes a well-written general analysis on the place of cross-sectoral R&D in the Commission’s priorities and a portrait of Research Science, and Innovation commissioner Carlos Moedas.
Carlos Moedas from Portugal will be holding this portfolio in the new European Commission led by Jean-Claude Juncker. Until now he was Secretary of State to the Prime Minister.
