In past years, individual conference participants were able to apply for a Grundtvig Grant to cover costs for the Ecsite Annual Conference. This Grundtvig Grant no longer exists – it has been incorporated into the new Erasmus+ funding model.

What does this mean to you?

  • No funds are available for the the Ecsite Annual Conference 2014
  • For future conferences, only institutions can apply for funds, not individual participants. As an individual participant, you must ask your institution for an application.

On January 20th 2014, a set of thrilling events were organized by science centres across Europe, as the first act of the “Hook-up with Rosetta” Campaign, designed by the Ecsite Space Group. The European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe finally woke up after two and a half years of hibernation. Ecsite is seeking a Fundraising Officer who will be responsible for the fundraising of Ecsite and for the establishment of new partnerships.

In this function s/he will have to execute the existing fundraising strategy and develop new initiatives in order to achieve the defined goals. Drafts propositions, grant applications and assets of existing partnerships will be a part of the work. The Fundraising Officer shall introduce Ecsite to as many field-related corporations, foundations and other interested partners in order to increase Ecsite’s income.

Last week the project RRI Tools has been launched in Brussels, a three year long project funded under the European Commission (EC) Seventh Framework Programme (FP7 2007-2013) to foster Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Europe with a view to a harmonious and efficient relationship between science and European society.

RRI is a process where all societal actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business) work together during the whole research and innovation (R&I) process in order to align its outcomes to the values, needs and expectations of European society.

Ecsite is seeking a Project Manager who will be responsible for implementing activities related to projects funded by the European Commission to ensure they are carried out consistently and successfully in accordance with the project’s rules and work plan.

News 20 January 2014

On Monday 20 January, ESA’s comet-chasing spacecraft Rosetta will wake up from 31 months of deep space slumber. ESA will streaming live from ESOC, Darmstadt, Germany, with full coverage of the day’s historic events as they unfold, starting at 09:15 GMT (10:15 CET)

Rosetta’s computer is programmed to re-establish contact with Earth on 20 January, starting with an ‘alarm clock’ at 10:00 GMT. Immediately afterwards, the spacecraft’s startrackers will begin to warm up, taking around six hours. Rosetta will then send a signal to Earth to announce that it is awake.

The Ecsite Membership Service Group has elaborated a survey that was sent to all Ecsite members. We have received 69 responses so far. Many thanks to all who took the time to share their thoughts, find the outcomes here . These preliminary results were discussed at the Directors Forum 2013.

Your feedback helps Ecsite define future adaptions and improvements for members which is why we are aiming for even more responses – optimally from 200 members.

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – European citizens are directly influencing the European Union research agenda for the first time through a ground-breaking consultation series financed by the European Commission and conducted by science centres and museums in 27 EU member states.
