Who said we could only see with our eyes and hear with our ears? How humans perceive the world is way stranger than you think. Thanks to the support of the European Research Council (ERC) scientists are imagining new ways to explore the world by giving us a full spectrum of our sensory experience.
Do you think it is impossible to ‘hear’ the sights around you? With the help of robotics and wearable technologies, Israeli scientist Amir Amedi has created a tool that provides visual information through an auditory experience. His EyeMusic device enables blind people to describe faces or detect color. This major scientific discovery means people can gain lost senses and experience new ones.
This research is part of the Senses theme which is the 4th theme the ERC=Science2 project explores in depth. Launched as part of a high-level event “European Research Excellence – Impact and Value for Society” on October 12th in Tallinn, Estonia, the theme will run until the end of 2017.
If you want to learn more about this theme, make sure you check the project website!
