We learned with regret the loss of Johanne Landry, who passed away on 19 March. Landry was a scientific museologist who contributed to the creation of Ecsite.
As early as in the 1990s, Johanne Landry put the values of sustainable development, community engagement and citizen participation at the heart of her museum work.
From 1984 to 1990, Johanne worked at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie where she was responsible for the development and management of travelling exhibitions in Europe, Asia, America and Africa. It is during this period that she actively contributed to the establishment of Ecsite.
In 1990 she worked at the Montreal Biodôme in Canada, first on the orientation committee for the development of the Biodôme, then leading the marketing and communications, and later the public and educational programme. In 1997-1998, she developed the strategic plan of four science museums in Bangkok, Thailand. Back in Montreal, from 2000 to 2007 she was the director of the Montreal Insectarium. She returned to Paris from 2007 to 2011 where she directed the Galleries Department of the National Natural History Museum. She pursued her career in Montreal as Head of Programming and Education Manager at the Botanical Garden until 2016.
Johanne was known for her social engagement, her progressive thinking in scientific museology and her profound commitment to sustainable development. She was one who shared, generously exchanged and never stopped reflecting on the essence of science communications and museums.
