As part of the ERC=Science2 communications campaign, which explores six different areas of European blue-sky research funded by the ERC (the Human City, Food, Longevity, Sensory Experience, Music, Robots), Cité des Sciences & de l’industrie hosted the first theme titled The Human City, which is all about urban issues, such as water and waste management, traffic and pollution, urban design and modelling and more.
A three-day event saw a Science Café with a group of students followed by a debate with two ERC grantees - Denise Pumain (CNRS) and Ludovic Leclercq (IFSTTAR). Both of the featured research projects investigate exisiting urban challenges and the negative externalities they produce in order to design more sustainable and accurate urban models. Furthermore, the European Reseach Council and their vital role to promoting science in Europe was stressed in a presentation by Mr. Massimo Gaudina, Head of the Communications Unit at the ERC Executive Agency.
This event marked the starting point of a series of science engagement events which will be organized over the next 2,5 years in 9 European countries (The Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Bulgaria, Austria, Spain, France, Latvia and Greece).
