The Department of Applied Sciences at the University of the West of England (UWE) is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Science Communication. This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant community of science communication researchers and practitioners who are currently working at the cutting edge of science communication research and practice. The post-holder will design and deliver effective teaching and learning opportunities for the MSc in Science Communication, as well as other postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation level science communication provision across the department. The post-holder will also be expected to contribute to the continuing professional development (CPD) offering and the research portfolio of the internationally renowned Science Communication Unit, home to a group of over twenty science communication academics, researchers, writers, and PhD students.
The post holder will participate in the design, development and assessment of modules and will be passionate about teaching and providing support to students. Working within a committed and enthusiastic team, the post-holder will contribute to the highly regarded and innovative MSc in Science Communication, undergraduate teaching, and the Science Communication Unit’s continuing professional development (CPD) offering. Preference will be given to applicants who can evidence expertise in either quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies appropriate to science communication, combined with in-depth knowledge of academic theory OR practice in science communication.
Candidates will be expected to have a PhD in science communication or a subject relevant to the post, or to have a relevant master’s qualification with significant professional practice. We are looking for candidates who have experience of teaching, research and/or practice in science communication, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students, inspiring them to learn. An interest in contributing to and leading the preparation of proposals and applications to secure funding from internal and external sources is also desirable.
