The National Space Centre (Leicestershire, UK) are looking to recruit a confident, outgoing individual to join the education team and assist in delivering high-quality programmes to schools and the public. The role will include delivering workshops, presenting educational programmes in the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium and the Mission experience. Operating StarDome our portable planetarium, presenting outreach programmes and assisting with day-to-day operations of the Space Centre.
About the role
The successful candidate will have a proven interest in astronomy and space science, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively to many different audiences in a variety of settings. Commitment to excellent standards of customer care is essential, whilst experience of presenting educational programmes in a formal or informal learning environment would be a distinct advantage. A full driving licence is essential.
Working with Children – An Enhanced DBS Disclosure is required for this role. Information about the Disclosure service can be found at the Directgov website.
Starting salary £19,500 per annum, depending upon experience.
Full-Time - includes weekends – 35 hours per week. Additional hours worked will be compensated with time off in lieu.

Invited applicants will be asked to conduct two presentations:
1) A recorded clip on a space-themed craft activity. This should be no longer than 2 – 3 mins and can be uploaded to BambooHR if selected for interview.
2) A 5-minute presentation based on the solar system. This should be suitable for year 3 – 6 school children (aged 7-11). The use of ‘props’ and PowerPoint is welcome (although no more than 3 slides are to be emailed in advance); however, no other AV or IT equipment should not be incorporated. Please note that National Space Centre members of staff should not be approached for assistance with the presentation.
