We are pleased to open the call for a new Chairperson for the Mariano Gago Ecsite Awards.
About the Role
This high profile and important volunteer position within Ecsite, provides an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of the Mariano Gago Ecsite Awards, working closely with the Ecsite Communications manager. The Awards Chairperson is vital in leading the Awards jury in recognising and celebrating outstanding achievements and innovations within our community.
Who Are We Looking For?
Strong Leadership Qualities: You should demonstrate strong decision-making skills, inspire and motivate the awards Jury ensuring transparency and fairness.
Passion for Shaping the Awards Programme: exhibit a genuine enthusiasm for the Awards programme, showing dedication to its continual improvement, actively engaging in all aspects of the awards, and bringing innovative ideas to enhance its relevance and prestige.
Knowledge and Expertise: Understanding of science engagement, culture, and policy, with broader interests in these and other areas.
Representative Capabilities: Effectively represent the Awards during the Ecsite Conference through, acting as an ambassador and promoting the awards' values.
Diplomatic and Pragmatic: Ability to navigate complex situations with diplomacy and pragmatism.
Responsibilities:
Supported administratively by the Ecsite team this position will:
Oversee the awards nomination and selection process
Lead the Awards Jury in evaluating nominees and selecting recipients
Ensure transparency and fairness throughout the awards process
Present the Awards during the Ecsite Conference
Tenure
The Chairperson position is for a term of 3 years, renewable for a further 3 years. Applicants must work for an Ecsite member organisation during this time.

Important
The newly appointed Chairperson should have time to review all Awards submissions in early February 2025 and attend online calls at the beginning of March 2025. Exact dates and timing to be confirmed.
