Rosetta is set to complete its mission in a controlled descent to the surface of its comet on 30 September. It will be a grand final for this amazing mission even if in the following years we will keep receiving scientific outcomes from it.
The mission is coming to an end as a result of the spacecraft’s ever-increasing distance from the Sun and Earth. It is heading out towards the orbit of Jupiter, resulting in significantly reduced solar power to operate the craft and its instruments, and a reduction in bandwidth available to downlink scientific data.
The landing on the comet was an amazing technical achievement accompanied by a fantastic public response. The Space group prepared a European wide campaign together with science centres and museums. We produced a kit containing ready to use hands-on activities, workshops and an exhibition. Coinciding with the final landing, we have updated the kit so you can use it to prepare your events for 30 September. As in its previous version it will contain the activities together with guidelines, materials required and all the necessary explanations.
ESA has informed that media will cover the final hours of operations at ESOC from 10:00 CEST on 30 September, in addition, scientific journalists are invited to apply to attend an afternoon with Rosetta science experts the day before, on 29 September, dedicated to reviewing the key scientific highlights of the mission so far. Both the science session on 29 September and the main mission finale on 30 September will be live streamed for all interested media at www.esa.int
Contact us and we will share the updated kit with you.
Be ready for the final landing!!!
