The 2020 Ecsite Conference

For many within our network, the Ecsite Conference is an annual highlight and a wonderful melting pot of ideas and great minds. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been questions regarding the status of this year's event and we thank you for your patience while a decision was made.

The Ecsite Board met (virtually) on 1 April and have decided that the 2020 Ecsite Conference will not take place.

This was not a free decision made by the Board but it is a decision whereby the Board was forced to act, based on unprecedented circumstances which have affected the globe. Due to worldwide current travelling restrictions and legal regulations in Slovenia, there was no plausible way in which Ecsite could continue with plans to hold the Conference in Ljubljana. This decision was not taken lightly. An email was sent to our network on Friday 3 April to explain to our audiences that no Conference would take place in June, as well as to explain that we are looking at alternative ways in which to network and collaborate. We are sure that this decision did not come as a great surprise to many and for some it may have even been a relief to have a definitive answer, given the current professional and personal circumstances many of you are facing.

We are disappointed not to be seeing you in person in June but we take the health and wellbeing of our network very seriously and given the current circumstances, the risk to continue was simply too high. The Host team, the Kersnikova Institute, had put in an incredible amount of effort in organising this year's Conference edition and we thank them enormously for all their hard work.
